Over the last few years, X (formerly Twitter) has undergone dramatic changes that have made the platform unrecognizable and, for us, untenable. As a nonprofit that strives to provide opportunities to underrepresented authors, poets, and artists, Nat 1 Publishing has always prioritized fostering a safe, supportive community for both our readers and creators. However, X’s decisions to reduce content oversight, allow harmful content to flourish, and eliminate the protective functionality of the block feature places vulnerable users at greater risk of harassment and abuse. These actions are antithetical to our values as a publishing house dedicated to inclusivity and mutual respect. What’s more, the platform’s November 15 policy change allowing user content to be utilized for training third-party AI models further demonstrates a disregard for user privacy and intellectual property—ideals that we hold in high regard.
While we initially stayed to maintain a connection with our community, X’s amplification of hate and toxicity through its algorithms makes it impossible for us to continue engaging in good conscience. Therefore, we are leaving X and focusing our presence on platforms that do not actively compromise our values—so please be sure to follow us on Instagram, Threads, Facebook, or—better yet—join our official Discord community.
