Beginning in June, Nat 1 Publishing and our imprints will be adjusting the pricing of paperback novellas, novels, and chapbooks currently listed under $9.99 to a standard price of $9.99, and novelettes that are listed between $4 and $6 will be increased by a dollar. This change comes in response to new royalty policies being implemented by Amazon on June 10th, which will impact how earnings are distributed for lower-priced titles.
At Nat 1 Publishing, we are deeply committed to keeping our books as affordable and accessible as possible—especially considering our titles primarily come from emerging authors and shorter works that might not traditionally find a home in larger publishing houses. We’ve always believed that storytelling should be available to everyone, and we have always accepted lower royalties to ensure that.
However, under Amazon’s new royalty structure, most paperback books priced below $9.99 will generate no earnings for either the authors or the House. In other words, continuing to price our books below this threshold would mean that neither the creators nor the publisher will receive compensation for their work.
While we regret the necessity of this change, we are making this decision to ensure that our authors continue to be supported and that our publishing efforts remain sustainable. Thank you for understanding and for being part of the Nat 1 community
Sincerely,
The Nat 1 Publishing Team
